No doubt Alex Kapranos and his Franz Ferdinand mates have a lot to live up to. After two chart-topping albums and what seems like a dozen or so hit singles, the Glasgow four-piece has definitively set the bar high for their new album.
Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is out in a week or so and the boys – especially Kapranos – have already started plugging it. A London gig at Heaven is imminent and an extensive world tour surely beckons.
But (and this is a big but) Alex Kapranos has to do lot better than this when it comes to his wardrobe decisions. Franz Ferdinand was once at the forefront of (musical) fashion. As a Dior Homme sponsored band, Hedi Slimane made this Scottish band look good and Kapranos cut a handsome figure in what was then perceived as trendy; skinny jeans, skinny tie and skinny suit jacket.
And this is how he returns? In this picture, taken in San Francisco, November 2008, Alex wears a shabby collar less leather jacket and an orange (orange??) shirt, which makes up for the jacket with its massive collars. The pinstriped trousers looks like a pair of misplaced bottoms from a Next suit and maybe worst of all – the belt! I see Moss Bross have opened up a Glasgow branch…
Because of this I’ve already gone off the new album and eagerly await number four. A new sound and a new wardrobe, please!
