GUARDIAN'S LIST OF BEST DRESSED 2008

Ageism is a hot topic these days but the Guardian - or the fashion team in this case - doesn't seem to have a problem with Olden Goldies. It seemed to have been an attribute, not a handicap, when they crowned 2008's Best Dressed.

Age is of course relative. Who decides at what age you cross the line and become old? But fashion is a famously fickle and harsh business. Somewhere between 30 and 40 is considered ancient, especially when it comes to following the trends of the season. But, as we all know, being well dressed has often very little to do with fashion. Maybe that's why Carine Roitfeld, Kirsty Wark, Cindy Crawford, Mary Portas and Michelle Obama are all on the list? Take That - four, possibly five, men in their mid-thirties, also (for some reason) made it on there.

The Younger ones - Alexa Chung, Cheryl Cole, Rihanna and Lindsay Lohan - are all of course very stylish but it was the even younger girls that took home the price: Sasha (10) and Malia (7) Obama!

Question mark of the year, and the list, is of course the including  - let alone existence - of Henry Conway, Tory Toff and son of disgraced Conservative MP Derek Conway. Piss off, will you dear
