No doubt Alex Kapranos and his Franz Ferdinand mates have a lot to live up to. After two chart-topping albums and what seems like a dozen or so hit singles, the Glasgow four-piece has definitively set the bar high for their new album.
Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is out in a week or so and the boys – especially Kapranos – have already started plugging it. A London gig at Heaven is imminent and an extensive world tour surely beckons.
But (and this is a big but) Alex Kapranos has to do lot better than this when it comes to his wardrobe decisions. Franz Ferdinand was once at the forefront of (musical) fashion. As a Dior Homme sponsored band, Hedi Slimane made this Scottish band look good and Kapranos cut a handsome figure in what was then perceived as trendy; skinny jeans, skinny tie and skinny suit jacket.
And this is how he returns? In this picture, taken in San Francisco, November 2008, Alex wears a shabby collar less leather jacket and an orange (orange??) shirt, which makes up for the jacket with its massive collars. The pinstriped trousers looks like a pair of misplaced bottoms from a Next suit and maybe worst of all – the belt! I see Moss Bross have opened up a Glasgow branch…
Because of this I’ve already gone off the new album and eagerly await number four. A new sound and a new wardrobe, please!

i saw them on j.ross, last friday and he hasn't got such a striking look as he once did, he also had remarkably just washed/fluffy hair. not cool.
Well the orange shirt isn't surprising, orange has always been a part of Franz... theme in album covers, videos, ties, accessories, etc. Don't judge the new album just on one fashion flop. It's really very good and there are some songs on it bound to be the next big hits.
he can wear what he wants. it doesn't make their music bad. anyway i like the jacket.
i saw them on the tonight show with conan last night, and alex looked HIDEOUS! damn what happened to him? he was SO sexy before and now hes just...erm... awkward looking... his hair last night on the show was a disaster, and he wore these jeans rolled up like 6546549864 times... ah man, i miss the shmexy kapranos <3
wtf you shouldnt judge a MUSIC band by how they dress, its about how they play! at the end of the day they are musicians not models!
